North Carolina - Percent New in Total, Democrat, and Republican Votes from Lt. Governor to President in 2024
North Carolina - Percent New in Total, Democrat, and Republican Votes from US House to President in 2024
Pennsylvania, Allegheny County - Percent Drop in Total Votes from President to US Senate in 2024
Georgia - Percent Drop in Total, Democrat, and Republican Votes from President to US House in 2024
The following 3 graphs show the percentage of voters in a first race who appear not to vote in a second race. Taking T, D, and R to denote Total, Democrat, and Republican votes and taking 1 and 2 to denote the first and second race, the y-values in the graphs are calculated via the following formulas:
100 * (T1 - T2) / T1 100 * (D1 - D2) / D1 100 * (R1 - R2) / R1Any further discussion of each of the following graphs appears below them:
The above graph shows what are sometimes called "bullet ballots" in that it shows the percentage of ballots which voted in a first race (President) which did not vote in a second race (US House). These are "on net" in that any ballot that voted in the US House race but not in the Presidential race will be offset by one of the ballots that voted in the Presidential race but not in the House race. The y-scale was set to show just those points with the highest percentages.
Because of the difficulty in reading the names of the precincts from 7.5 to 9.5 percent, the above graph shows a closeup of that range. The tables below show the numbers for the precincts above with percentages of 7.5 and above. All of the numbers shown are for complete counties except for Fulton. It's often a good idea to check to see if any of the House races (there can be more than one) are unopposed or otherwise do not include both a Democrat and Republican candidate as that can affect the number of voters who vote for that race.

The above graph shows the percentage of ballots (on net) that voted for the Democrat in the first race (President) but did not vote for the Democrat in the second race (US House). These are "on net" in that any ballot that voted for the Democrat US House candidate but not for Harris will be offset by one of the ballots that voted for Harris but not for the US House candidate. As can be seen in the graph, there were many precincts in which there was a dropoff in votes from Harris to the Democrat US House candidate but there were many where there was an increase in votes.
The above graph shows the percentage of ballots (on net) that voted for the Republican in the first race (President) but did not vote for the Republican in the second race (US House). These are "on net" in that any ballot that voted for the Republican US House candidate but not for Trump will be offset by one of the ballots that voted for Trump but not for the US House candidate. As can be seen in the graph, there were many precincts in which there was a dropoff in votes from Trump to the Republican US House candidate but there were many where there was an increase in votes.
It is important to note an major difference between the first graph above and the second and third graphs. Since the first graph has to do with total votes, the popularity of the candidates should have no effect except to possibly motivate more voters to vote only in the race that they are most interested in. However, the second and third graphs will also show voters who voted in both races but simply split their ballots.
The following 3 graphs show the percent of votes in a second race which appear to be "new" or from voters who did not vote for the first race. Taking T, D, and R to denote Total, Democrat, and Republican votes and taking 1 and 2 to denote the first and second race, the y-values in the graphs are calculated via the following formulas:
100 * (T2 - T1) / T2 100 * (D2 - D1) / D2 100 * (R2 - R1) / R2A further discussion of each of the following graphs appears below them:
The above graph shows what are sometimes called "bullet ballots" in that it shows the percentage of ballots (on net) that did not vote in the first race (for Governor) but did vote ("bulleted") the second race (for President). These are "on net" in that any ballot that voted for the Governor race but not the Presidential race will be offset by one of the ballots that voted for the Presidential race but not the Governor race. The y-scale was set to show just those points with the highest percentages. The tables following the 3 graphs show the top precincts. For example, the following line appears for the second highest precinct above:
COUNTY AREA Dem Rep MARGIN1 TOTAL1 Dem.1 Rep.1 MARGIN2 TOTAL2 DEM_SH REP_SH MAR_SH TOT_SH 1142 GUILFORD H11 191 58 133 262 188 89 99 284 -1.60 34.83 -34.34 7.75The percentage of 7.75 percent is the farmost right value and equals 100 * (TOTAL2 - TOTAL1) / TOTAL2 which equals 100 * (284 - 262) / 284 which equals 7.75 percent.
The above graph shows the percentage of ballots (on net) that did not vote for the Democrat in the first race (Josh Stein) but did vote for the Democrat in the second race (Harris). These are "on net" in that any ballot that voted for Josh Stein but not for Harris will be offset by one of the ballots that voted for Harris but not for Josh Stein. Since support for Stein was greater for Harris, it doesn't really make sense to measure "new votes" for Harris. However, the entire graph is shown above for completeness.
The above graph shows the percentage of ballots (on net) that did not vote for the Republican in the first race (Mark Robinson) but did vote for the Republican in the second race (Trump). These are "on net" in that any ballot that voted for Robinson but not the Trump will be offset by one of the ballots that voted for Trump but not for Robinson. The y-scale was set to show just those points with the highest percentages. The tables below show the top precincts. For example, the following line appears for the second highest precinct above:
COUNTY AREA Dem Rep MARGIN1 TOTAL1 Dem.1 Rep.1 MARGIN2 TOTAL2 DEM_SH REP_SH MAR_SH TOT_SH 2552 WAKE 3-JAN 445 85 360 558 288 270 18 574 -54.51 68.52 -1,900.00 2.79The percentage of 68.52 percent is the 3rd most right value and equals 100 * (Rep.1 - Rep) / Rep.1 which equals 100 * (270 - 85) / 270 which equals 68.52 percent. That is, on net, 68.52 percent of the Trump votes of 270 did not vote for the Mark Robinson, the Republican candidate for Governor. Of course, Mark Robinson did have controversy so a race other than Governor might be a better race to compare with the Presidential race. This points to an important difference between the first graph above and the second and third graphs. Since the first graph has to do with total votes, the popularity of the candidates should have no effect except to possibly motivate more voters to vote only in the race ("bulleting the race") that they are most interested in. However, the second and third graphs will also show "new voters" who voted in both races but simply split their ballots.

100 * (T2 - T1) / T2 100 * (D2 - D1) / D2 100 * (R2 - R1) / R2

100 * (T2 - T1) / T2 100 * (D2 - D1) / D2 100 * (R2 - R1) / R2Previously, all 3 of the graphs below showed numerous precinct that had "new votes" for the Presidential race which did not appear to vote in the U.S. House races. It was found that the reason for this was that dome precincts have multiple House races and those multiple House races needed to be aggragated into a single House race. That has now been done.
The above graph shows what are sometimes called "bullet ballots" in that it shows the percentage of ballots (on net) that did not vote in the first race (for the House) but did vote ("bulleted") the second race (for President). These are "on net" in that any ballot that voted for the House race but not the Presidential race will be offset by one of the ballots that voted for the Presidential race but not the House race. The y-scale was set to show just those points with the highest percentages.
It is unclear why several precincts in Cabarrus County show very high percentages but did not show up for the Governor or Lt. Governor race above. It would be worth invesigating whether there is something unique about that House race. However, at least Robeson:17 and Mitchell:7 can be seen having high percentages for all of the Governor, Lt. Governor, and House races being compared to the President race. A careful inspection of the data might well reveal others.
Pennsylvania, Allegheny County - Percent Drop in Total Votes from President to US Senate in 2024
The following graph shows the percentage of voters in a first race who appear not to vote in a second race. Taking T denote Total votes and taking 1 and 2 to denote the first and second race, the y-values in the graphs are calculated via the following formula:
100 * (T1 - T2) / T1
The above graph shows what are sometimes called "bullet ballots" in that it shows the percentage of ballots which voted in a first race (President) which did not vote in a second race (US Senate). These are "on net" in that any ballot that voted in the US Senate race but not in the Presidential race will be offset by one of the ballots that voted in the Presidential race but not in the Senate race.
Because of the difficulty in reading the names of the top precincts, the above graph shows a closeup of that range. The tables below show the numbers for the precincts above with percentages of 4.8 and above. It should be noted that this section does not include graphs showing the same values for Democrats and Republicans because the source data did not include the candidate's party.
