Percent of Computer Software Developers in Alabama, grouped by CITIZENSHIP and SEX: 1980-2018

The following divides these groups up further by gender. As can be seen, the percentage of software developers who are female U.S.-born citizens has dropped from about 35.2 percent in 1990 to about 13.3 percent in 2018. It's unclear as to why this percentage dropped from 27.2 percent in 2017. Some of this may be actual changes in the companies and workforce but some may be imprecision in the survey. These numbers come from the annual American Community Survey (ACS) which is a 1-in-100 national random sample of the population (see https://usa.ipums.org/usa/sampdesc.shtml#us2018a).
